The 50th JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) and 11th JOTI (Jamboree On The Internet).
Photos by Michael Gordon, District Advancement Committee and radio amateur.
This event was very well prepared, spearheaded by Stu Parkinson with three districts joining together in Logan, Utah (Old Ephraim, Old Juniper and Elkhorn districts of the Trapper Trails Council). In addition to usual Jamboree style visiting with other scouts via radio and internet, the Radio merit badge was offered. Instruction and practice given by members of the Bridgerland Amateur Radio Club (BARC) aided by a few amateur radio operators from among the participants -- one of which was a Scout from Smithfield, Utah, who had recently earned his own Technician Class amateur radio license and was quite and inspiration to others.
Appreciation is given to Erik Larson, an Extra Class radio operator and I'll add the other radio operators' names as soon as I have them (and they want to be recognized). Logan's Troop 1 contributed substantially to the success of JOTI and it was an opportunity for the Scouts of Troop 1 to be reunited with Scouting friends in England.
Participation was excellent and proof of Stu's work over the past months making sure that many people know of this event. A Round Table meeting had been devoted to the subject of JOTA/JOTI.
Twenty Scouts earned the Radio merit badge and altogether about 80 Scouts participated. The Order of the Arrow provided breakfast for the early morning session and I think many of the participants, especially the volunteers and leaders of this event, got about four hours sleep Friday night to Saturday morning.
The following pages constitute a slide show and photo selector.
The slide show itself is intended for sequential viewing of a collection of photographs.
Each page includes in its title bar, and underneath, the file name of the photo. This is useful when corresponding to someone about the photo.
To advance to the next photo: Clicking on the photo advances you to the next photo unless you are on a thumbnail or zoomed photo, in which case clicking it takes you to the 'normal' size.
Below each photo is a set of links (buttons) to advance, return, or exit the slide show.
